Singles & Doubles Draw

Author: Ric, November 7th, 2009

The draw for the Singles & Doubles tournaments takes place on Sunday evening (20:30) at The New Inn.

I’ve received entries in advance from The Hampshire Yeoman, The Holbury A, The Malt and (of course) The New Inn. Any other teams entering players should ensure that I receive them – plus the entry fees – at the draw itself.

From those four teams we have 28 singles entrants, and 12 doubles pairs – so I’m hopeful we could get close to 64 singles and 32 doubles.

The early rounds will all be best of three frames – at later stages (certainly the semi-finals and final of the singles, and the final of the doubles) we’ll play longer matches.

Averages Updated: 3 November

Author: Ric, November 3rd, 2009

Now that we’ve received all of the score cards from the League Week 1 fixtures, we’ve uploaded all of the averages data.

Sure, it might be early days – but if you won the only frame you played last week, take the opportunity to bask in the glory of being the best player in your team :)

As an extra bonus, with just one match down, you only need to have played one frame to feature on the Division 1, Division 2 and – most importantly – Top Players tables.

But don’t start getting cocky – it gets harder from here on in…

The Totton & District Pool League has a Twitter account (tottonpool) – follow us and join in the chit-chat… and if we re-tweet you, your comment will appear on the website :)

Adding Comments to Posts

Author: Ric, October 30th, 2009

This new website design incorporates the ability for people to post comments – and I’d welcome the input of anyone in the league. Just a few things to note:

  • You don’t have to register, or be signed-in, to post a comment – however, if you’re not signed-in then your comment will have to be approved by a moderator before it goes up on the website
  • You are welcome to register – once you do this, the first post you write will have to be approved by a moderator – but after that your comments will go live immeditately

When you register:

  • Choose your username/login and enter your email address
  • You’ll be emailed with an initial password
  • Log in and edit your account to change your password (believe me, you’ll want to!)
  • At this stage, please enter your proper name, and use the “Website” field to state which team you play for
  • We reserve the right to deactivate accounts that don’t have your proper name and team

When you post:

  • Please be civil and constructive
  • If you have a grievance with another player, team or me (surely not!) this is not the place to raise it – use the contact form on the website to drop me a line
  • Any posts that the moderators deem unacceptable will be deleted  immediately… this is a website, not a democracy ;o)

Please note:

  • Please be civil
  • We will delete posts and/or deactivate accounts of people who post abuse
  • Really, please be civil
  • If people start abusing the privilege of posting comments, we will withdraw this function
  • Did I mention “please be civil”?

As always, I’m really happy to receive comments, ideas and suggestions – you can use the “Contact Us” form to drop me a line.

Preston Shield Draw

Author: Ric, October 28th, 2009

We held the draw for The Preston Shield during the league meeting last week:

Preston Shield, Round 1

  • Swan v bye
  • Roebuck v bye
  • New Inn v Jolly Sailor
  • Hampshire Yeoman v Holbury B
  • Cue T’s v bye
  • Holbury A v Langley Tavern B
  • Malt v bye
  • Langley Tavern A v Testwood

The initial draw also fixes in place all of the remaining rounds, so…

Preston Shield, Round 2

  • Swan v Roebuck
  • New Inn or Jolly Sailor v Hampshire Yeoman or Holbury B*
  • Cue T’s v Holbury A or Langley Tavern B
  • Malt v Langley Tavern A

* If Holbury B win their first round match, they will have a home tie in the second round

Please note: to give each team a fair number of home games (particularly because half the teams in the league have one more home league match than the other half), it may be necessary to swap the home and away teams as we progress through the competition – however, the teams competing in each fixture will not be changed.

Junior Trophy

Remember that all teams knocked out of The Preston Shield in the first two rounds will go through to The Junior Trophy.

Singles & Doubles

Author: Ric, October 27th, 2009

As usual in the Winter Season, we’ll be having a Singles and a Doubles competition. These are open to every player in the league, for a flat entry fee of £2 per player. Entry fees go towards the competition trophies and prize money for the winners and runners-up in each competition.

All captains have been given an entry form, and should collect names and entry fees from players in their team. (If needs be, you are also welcome to contact me directly.) There is no limit on the number of players that can enter from each team.

Entries must be received, along with entry fees, by Sunday 8 November.

The Singles & Doubles Draw

There will be a meeting at The New Inn, 20:30 on Sunday 8 November, where I will collect all the entries and fees, and will then hold the draw for both competitions.

  • The draw is completely random – you can be matched against any other player in the league
  • Matches will be allocated to venues that enter players in the draw (although not every venue will be use on every night of the competition)
  • Players entering the draw must be prepared to travel to away games – you can be allocated to a match at any venue in the league
  • Players must arrive and register at the venue by 20:00, or risk automatic disqualification from the competition
  • All matches will be played on a Thursday night
  • The final of the doubles, plus the semi-finals and final of the singles, will be held at the Winter Season Presentation Night, 6 May 2010.
  • Singles Competition
  • Rounds 1 & 2: 3 December

Round 3 & Quarter Finals: 25 February

  • Semi-Finals & Final: 6 May

Doubles Competition

  • Rounds 1 & 2: 14 January
  • Quarter Finals & Semi-Finals: 8 April
  • Final: 6 May

New Website Design

Author: Ric, October 26th, 2009

You can’t help but notice that the website has had a radical overhaul! I’ve converted the site so that it runs on WordPress, which should mean that I can add new features and maintain the site more easily.

However, it also means that in the short term I’ll be playing around with it quite a bit. Please bear with me – but be assured I’ll keep the league table and fixtures list updated all the time, so you should always be able to refer to them on here.
